Harmony Elementary School
Harmony Elementary School was designed for a site across 10 Mile Road from the Lawrence Tech University campus. The site is accessed via a 5-lane road, an adjacent parking lot, and the campus parking lot across 10 Mile Road. A sidewalk and bus stop are on the site’s north side. 10 Mile Road defines the site’s north frontage. The Rouge River forms the eastern and southern boundaries of the site. The west boundary meets the South Housing parking lot. This design adapted to an existing site for an elementary school involve re-purposing and re-imagining spaces to meet the unique needs of an educational environment. The challenge lies in preserving the historical or natural integrity of the original land while creating modern, functional spaces. Transforming an old lot into a vibrant learning space requires a balance between maintaining the character of the existing topography and the surrounding environment, ensuring that the new design harmonizes with the past while meeting contemporary educational standards. This design reduces the ecological footprint and enhances the learning experience by connecting students with nature.
