SHED #7

The building is located in Detroit, Michigan, in Eastern Market (Shed 7) between Russell Street and Wilkins Street, sitting on the northwest side of the site. Its design integrates systems that enhance functionality and sustainability, taking advantage of its orientation to maximize natural light and energy efficiency.

The building’s interior has open and flexible spaces, with exposed concrete finishes and large windows to allow daylight in. It has a modern, rectangular form with curved facades and uses durable precast concrete for its structure. The enclosure includes high-performance glass and concrete walls for better insulation and thermal control.

Shading systems are a key feature, reducing solar heat gain with horizontal and vertical fins, awnings, and movable shades. These systems cut solar gain by up to 90%, depending on their placement. The roof includes photovoltaic panels and solar thermal systems, making the building energy-efficient and sustainable.
